History

Today, ASI is a recognized leader in the life (LI), long-term care (LTC), disability insurance (DI), and Medicare markets, partnering with more than 800 agents and advisors. With a team of 10 experienced professionals, ASI’s mission remains to provide agents and advisors with simplified strategies that empower them to be the key solution providers in their clients’ diverse insurance and risk management needs.

In January 2015, Angie Pettinger was named Partner and Chief Operating Officer, following her significant contributions to the company since joining in 1994. Angie was promoted to President in January 2021, taking on full responsibility for the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of ASI.

ASI remained in Memphis, Tennessee, since its founding, moving into a new office facility in May 2013 to accommodate its continued growth.

In 2003, ASI strategically exited the health insurance market, selling its Third-Party Administrator (TPA) division to Meritain Health (now part of Aetna). This led to the consolidation of ASI’s operations in Memphis and branch offices in Nashville and Birmingham.

In 1985, ASI expanded further through the acquisition of Executive Underwriters, Inc. of Memphis. John Dewald retired as CEO in 1994, passing leadership to Jack, who served as President and CEO.

Founded in 1962 by John and Sue Dewald as Dewald & Associates, the firm quickly established itself as a leader in the insurance brokerage industry. In 1974, the company was renamed Agency Services, Inc. (ASI) to better reflect its expanding team, strengthened carrier relationships, and growing expertise in life and health insurance brokerage. In 1982, their son, Jack Dewald, joined the firm following his graduation from the University of Arkansas.
