Originally founded by John & Sue Dewald as Dewald & Associates in 1962, the firm quickly grew to become a recognized pioneer in the insurance brokerage business. By 1974, the name was changed to Agency Services, Inc. to better reflect the growth and depth of our staff, carrier relationships and developing expertise in both life and health insurance brokerage. By 1982, John & Sue’s son, Jack Dewald, had joined the firm after graduating from the University of Arkansas. In 1985, Executive Underwriters, Inc. of Memphis was acquired by ASI.
John Dewald retired as CEO of ASI in 1994 and sold the firm to his son, Jack Dewald. Jack continues to serve as President and CEO. By 2003, ASI had determined that it should divest itself of its significant presence in the health insurance marketplace. The TPA division of ASI, with almost 100 employees, was sold in May 2003 to Meritain Health (now owned by Aetna). ASI branch offices in Nashville and Birmingham were consolidated at the time of the sale of our TPA division.
Located in Memphis, TN since its founding in 1962, ASI moved into its brand new office building and facilities in May, 2013.
In January 2015, Angie Pettinger was named Partner and Chief Operating Officer. Since joining ASI in 1994, Angie has played a significant role developing the growth and overseeing day-to-day operations of the agency. She has most recently served as the Executive Vice President of ASI.
As of January 1, 2021, Angie was named President of the firm, which further reflects her increasing leadership of the business enterprise. As President, Angie will have overall day-to-day operational and strategic responsibilities of the firm.
Agency Services, Inc. continues to be an industry leader in the life, LTC, DI and Medicare marketplaces.
